We are Sad to Go and Will Miss You All!
We will be closing our shop by the end of November.
Dear Quilter and Stitcher...
When Mom (Joanne) and I decided to open J & J Quilting and Needle Works almost 9 years ago it was a very exciting time. We had started with a humble shop of 500 bolts, a few patterns, a handful of books and an idea that this city needed a one stop shop that combined quilting supplies with stitching supplies. Once the decision was made we executed our plan! Inside of 5 weeks we decided to open a shop, picked our name, found our Jasper Ave. location, ordered our inventory, and turned a grey drab space into a wonderful shop! We were both excited and nervous to open on May 15, 2002. Some of the paint was still wet! My how far we have come!
In less than five years and because of the support of all of you we moved into our brand new 3500sqft shop. Again we turned an unfinished space into a shiny new quilt and needlecraft shop. Our location on 102 Ave. and 106 Street is our dream shop. We worked for 3 months to renovate it. We were soooo excited to host our Grand Re-Opening in March of 2007. With over 3500 bolts, 100's of stitching and quilting patterns, and brand new staff we set out to create the perfect shop. Over the past few years we have rearranged it, reorganized it and fine tuned it. We are in awe of what it has become. In the past 4 years we have doubled our inventory and grown more than we had imagined.
This will come as a shock to most but we have decided to close our shop. We always knew that the time would come to have some new 'little' family members. We put between 60-80 hours a week into our wonderful shop and we enjoy every minute of it but as a family we always knew that the time would come when putting in those hours would be impossible while trying to raise a young family.
We don't want you to feel sorry for us. This decision is not a financial one. This is a true family owned business and so we sat down as a family and made a decision that it was time to move on to other things. We are experiencing our BEST YEAR EVER! We had always said if we were going to retire we would do so at the top! We wanted to remember this shop as our dream shop! We did not want to see this beautiful shop (our first baby) that took us almost 9 years to build slowly go down hill because our attention and focus had shifted to a 'new' baby. I am not pregnant yet but hopefully will be within the next few months and will keep you posted as to when the new bundle of joy will arrive!
We have always said that if we decided to move on we would never sell our shop. We have worked for almost 9 years to develop our reputation and we feel that no one else would do it justice. Please note that we will not be selling any of our fixtures. We are hanging on to even the smallest basket. You haven't seen the last of us. You will hear what some of our secret side projects are in less than 8 months. We will keep this website up even after we are closed to keep you updated on what we are doing.
I know that this letter is long but We know what happens when rumours start circulating...it's like playing the telephone game. The story starts out right and ends quite different from how it began. We wanted to make sure you all had the TRUE STORY! We are moving on...not going under. We are not selling. The store IS NOT being taken over because a financial matter. We are not being forced to close...we have chosen to close. We are in good standing with ALL of our distributors. None of us is sick or dying. We are simply starting a new adventure.
THANK YOU to all of you for supporting us through the years. You have helped us to build one of the best and fastest growing shops in the city. This is not a good-bye...This is a See you Soon.
Of course because we are closing there will be some sales to clear-out our inventory!
